Tasting Notes:
This "Southern Beauty" is a beauty indeed. I really enjoy this sake. It's elegant but with body. I paired it recently with dashi soaked Edamame and it was great! A softer acidity, but still enough structure to balance out the savory dashi. delicious.

Classic! Love it! Nuru-Kan (slightly warm) is sooo good too!
Hi Chizuko-san. Yes!! it is a total classic. everyone should try it both chilled and gently warmed.
The Picture for this product is correct but this is the Exception Beaty not the Southern Beauty. Southern Beauty is a Junmai Ginjo.
My friend from Iwate just brought me this great sake which I have always enjoyed and am glad makes frequent appearances on American Japanese restaurant menus.
I was thinking about the name, since Iwate is the “North” not the “South” of Japan ( and anyway, the Japanese divide Honshu into East and West) and even the part of Iwate where this is brewed is northern. Iwate is also not the southernmost part of the old province of Mutsu, so what gives?
The name comes from the fact that it is brewed in “Nambu-no-Kuni” and that Nambu is the name of a branch of the Minamoto family. So it should be translated as “Nanbu Beauty” meaning family or place.
And of course this is all completely irrelevant to its its wonderful flavor.
