Sake 101: What is Sake Made From?

This is the first in a series of “Sake 101″ video blog entries. This entry is about the ingredients Sake is made from. In future Sake 101 episodes, I’ll discuss the sake production process and sake terminology etc. Please leave a comment or feedback – I look forward to hearing from you.

  1. Hi John,
I’m delighted to get your comment! I would have never thought my videos would be used to teach english to sake-loving Japanese students, but it’s an ingenious idea!

I’m working on another video now about the “sake production process” if that might be helpful, too… it should be fun, a bit silly and not at all overly technical.

You can tell your students “ganbatte!” from me. I’m working hard to learn japanese right now – so I’m in the same boat.

    all the best,
    Tim

  2. Tim, you have saved my life! I am teaching a small group of Japanese English students in Sydney Australia some of the fundamentals of sake, and there isn’t a hell of a lot in the way of material to do this in an entertaining way. They already know a bit about sake in Japanese, but your VERY clearly spoken and simple video has provided me with a great resource to give them exposure to the same information they already have, but in English. Well done. Thanks again.

  4. Actually, I got chills up my spine at how well this video blog is coming together. No kidding! Keep up the great work and service to all of those sake drinkers out there.

  5. Happy mold rules! And so do you. Brilliant job.

  6. Loved it!!
Question from a newbie – hey, what would happen if you cook up sake rice to eat? Come on, tell me you haven’t tried it….

Those mold pictures were the best, though! Actual electron microscope images, I presume??

  7. Tim, loved it. Very professional, simply yet right to the point. Love the fact that I can download it and watch it full screen. Looking forward to your next episodes. Please don’t stop posting.

  8. Rad! Tim, I loved it, am totally looking forward to the rest of the installments. Honestly, honey, where do you find the time to put together such a professional-looking operation? Very impressed.
