Omachi is an heirloom strain of sake rice grown specifically for sake making (shuzokotekimai). It ranks fourth in terms of volume for sake specific rice grown in Japan. It is known to produce sakes that are more earthy and layered in flavor.

Omachi is not a product of crossbreeding of different rice strains but is a naturally occurring sake rice first identified in the 1860s in what is now Okayama Prefecture.
