The rice steamer is set on top of the Wagama boiler pictured here.

This is the large metal boiler or cauldron that is filled with water to create steam and that sits beneath the koshiki rice steaming vat. The wagama was traditionally heated by using a wooden fire below this iron pot, but more modern wagama have a heating coil inside to boil the water to create steam.
